In this series we explore some of the prominent themes around deconstruction in our culture as well as the West at large in the hopes of reconstructing a biblical Jesus according to eye witness testimonies. Essentially, the Apostle John is inspired to write that his readers may believe and have life in the only begotten son of God. Come with us on this journey to do away with false religion and rediscover the beauty of a biblical Jesus.
Part 1 – October 24, 2021
This first message is from John 1:35-51 where we discuss Jesus/Yeshua who is the Word-Incarnate who came into the world to give life and light amidst death and darkness that whosoever receives Him will be granted the right to be a child of God.
Part 2 – October 31, 2021
John 2:1-12 – Today John concentrates on a historical event that marks the beginning of Jesus’ miraculous signs. And for his disciples and us alike, it’s a part of Jesus’ qualification and authentication of who he claims to be and what he’s able and willing to do.
Part 3 – November 7, 2021
John 2:13-25 – It’s easy to look at these crimes and say, those self-justified words, “not me”. We believe the best of ourselves when there is great separation between ourselves and the accused. However, is it possible to embezzle, or misappropriate in other ways to the offense of a different type of person? The question today is: IS IT POSSIBLE TO MISAPPROPRIATE THE SACRED THINGS OF GOD? Well, in a sense, that’s exactly what’s going on in our text today. There is a misappropriation of the sacred with a hefty price to pay, only this time the Judge is Jesus.
Part 4 – November 14, 2021
John 3:1-21 – Every culture, for all time, has made assumptions about how one makes it to heaven. There is a lot that the Jewish scholar in today’s story didn’t understand about Jesus and his Kingdom, about Heaven based on common default assumptions, like we as American are too often guilty of. Jesus is interested in addressing Nicodemus’ false assumptions as well as ours. Today, Jesus goes into one of the most important conversations any of us can ever have: How Does One Make It To Heaven.
Part 5 – January 9, 2022
John 3:22-36 – Today we talk about this idea of Authority. Authority is a really big deal and determines a great deal of things in our lives. There is a question about authority in our story this morning when Jesus enters the scene. And the question is, How did they respond and how will we respond to the primary authority in all of life.
Part 6 – January 16, 2022
John 4:1-15 – Every generation of followers of Jesus, and those that will become followers of Jesus in their own context will be faced with the great temptation of being Culturally Conformed instead of Spiritually Transformed. Because Cultural Conformity Always Seeks To Colonize Whereas Gospel Transformation Seeks To Liberate in Truth. I believe our text this morning reveals what type of people Jesus is gathering, forming and transforming into his society ethically and spiritually. We’re going to look at this story of Jesus choosing against mere conformity that someone may have a transformed life as a result of the Gospel.
Part 7 – January 23, 2022
John 4:15-42 – What is Worship? It comes from both the OT and NT. The Hebrew word is Shahah and the Greek Word is Proskyneo- literally meaning to Bow. We all bow toward something. What do you bow to? Because friend, what you bow to is what you will worship which will play itself out on the stage of your life. And it matters. Today we’ll discover what type of bowing God wants and what happens to those who live a life truly bowed to him.
Part 8 – January 30, 2022
John 4:43-5:15 – Today we discuss some deconstruction happening in the church due to unmet expectations around health. However, we’ll learn that there is much misunderstanding around miracles, and if we’re not careful, our confidence in God will decline based on a misunderstanding of the role of Miracles in the church and in our lives.
Part 9 – February 6, 2022
John 5:16-30 – There is a question that is all too familiar to our culture; and perhaps in light of deconstruction has become more familiar in your own life. Which is, “What gives your Jesus the right to speak with Authority in my life…What gives the church the right to speak to matters of personal conscience.” Today we learn that the answer to this question is based on who Jesus really is; Mere or More.
Part 10 – February 13, 2022
John 15:12-14 – Today we focus on a cultural holiday. Sometime precious and other times devastating to the American. That holiday is Valentine’s Day. Wherever you find yourself; single and satisfied; searching and waiting or unhappily/happily married there are two words that apply to us all on Valentine’s Day that’s greater than Romance: Love and Friendship. We all need meaningful friendships rooted in love rather romantic or not. We have a text this morning from the 4th Gospel that speaks to both.
Part 11 – February 20, 2022
John 6:25-71 –Here’s the big question for us today- Where in your life, friend, have you rejected hard truth? If You want help identifying it, it’s the area of truth that you’re often not willing to face. And those things that we cannot face we tend to avoid. Today we learn that truth always confronts. It always finds a way; it is unavoidable. John 6 speaks directly to this reality as Jesus confronts with the truth of the Scriptures and Gospel.
Part 12 – February 27, 2022
John 7: 37-39 – The tension and controversy surrounding Jesus is mounting and he reluctantly travels to the Feast of Booths; He largely remains silent until the largest and highest point of the celebration and he begins to preach both in the Temple. All of this happens in Chapters 7-8. Both of these chapters primarily focus on the topics of two familiar themes: Light and Water. Jesus has water for the thirsty. Are you thirsty today?
Part 13 – March 6, 2022
John 8:31-59 – Today we look at the scientific and biological splendor of DNA. We learn that DNA Points To Something & it Proves Something: DNA is found in every cell in the body, and is passed down from parent to child. It Points Backwards To Origin & It Proves Presently Who’s & What You Are. Today, Jesus teaches that Spiritual DNA operates the same way in that it reveals Who we are and What We are. Knowing this makes all the difference in the world.
Part 14 – March 13, 2022
John 9:35-41 – Physical sight is a beautiful privilege often taken for granted. Spiritual sight is too often ignored all together. Living spiritually blind is even more devastating than physical blindness as taught by Jesus in today’s historical narrative. Today we learn, the extent to which we’re able to recognize the spiritual darkness in and around our lives will be predicated on our willingness to have our eyes opened by God through Christ.
Part 15 – March 20, 2022
John 10:1-3 – As religious tensions rise, Jesus begins to teach analogously of a Shepherd, a Sheep, and Gate directed at the Pharisees. Jesus is likely referring to Ezekiel 34 with both a warning and encouragement. Warning of the dangers of harmful spiritual leaders and an encouragement to his future sheep; for they are not left without a shepherd. We all should remain watchful of harmful spiritual leaders in the world.
Part 16 – March 27, 2022
John 10:3-6 – One of the best analogies that the church has, that explains Jesus’ relationship with the Church is that of Shepherd to Sheep and sheep to Shepherd. Thus, as we’ll learn, relating To God As Shepherd actually helps nurture our faith In that It allows us to see the shepherding nature and hand of God in our lives and how we, as his sheep, are to respond for our good and for our joy.
Part 17 – April 3, 2022
John 10:7-18 – Jesus gives two additional “I am” statements this morning. “I am the gate” and “I am the Good Shepherd”. What we learn from these statements is, Jesus gives us great hope this morning that the core desires behind our earthly desires can be fully satisfied. And He Is The Only, Exclusive Means That If One Possess Can Enter And Receive Real Life Satisfaction and To The Fullest. Learn more on how the Good Shepherd accomplishes this assurance.
Part 18 – April 10, 2022
John 11:1-24 – Today marks the Triumphal Entry. A day considered to be celebratory for the Jews that welcomed Jesus. However, the occasion that happened days prior to the triumph was lament and sadness and we need a gospel that can meet us at the crossroads of death and faith. Not a Gospel that ultimately helps you to meet your personal goals or become nicer, but a Gospel that can deal with the soul against of death all around amidst a promise of life by God.
Part 19 – April 17, 2022
John 11:25-43 – He Is Risen! This morning we discuss the necessary truth that everything in true Christianity hinges on the reality of the Resurrection. The greatest hopes for our deepest shame, fear and guilt all hinges on the resurrection. Tune in to see how the glory of God was revealed through Jesus raising a man from the dead by eye witness account and what that means for you and I today.
Part 20 – May 1, 2022
John 12:1-11 – Pastor James poses the question, “Is It Possible To Live With Life Giving Devotion To God When Insatiability & Materialism Is The Air That We Breathe In The Culture That We Live In?” We have a great example from our story today that it is not only possible, but Jesus is more than worth such a devotion.
Part 21 – May 8, 2022
John 13:1-17 – On this Mother’s Day, people like Mother Teressa come to mind and are known for a “Life of Service Where Self-Abasing Love Toward People Is Not Only The Norm, But Is A Great Priority In Their Lives. The Question for us this morning is, Is This An Optional Value In Christian Life Or Is It Expected Of All That Follow Jesus? Our story this morning answers this question us in a shocking and amazing act of Jesus washing dirty feet. Tune in to learn what this has to do with Jesus’ followers.
Part 22 – May 29, 2022
John 14:1-6 – In this video, we discuss the exclusive claims that Jesus makes about Himself and how Christians can stand in the tension of Jesus’ exclusive claims in a culture that often despises that exclusivity (we also discuss the various ways other companies/organizations try to force exclusivity to certain products, etc., however, it’s rarely looked upon as negative).
Part 23 – June 5, 2022
John 15:1-17 – In this video, we discuss abiding in Christ and practical ways to do that so that we can feel more connected to Christ as well as maximize our joy in Him
Part 24 – June 12, 2022
John 15 – In this video, Pastor Kerry discusses John 15, and some of the implications of the cost of following Christ. Jesus forewarned that rejection is an inevitability for those who follow him, with the assurance that God provides help for those who trust him in the midst of such hostility and rejection.
Part 25 – June 26, 2022
John 16:5-15 – This message discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and how that impacts us daily.
Part 26 – July 3, 2022
John 16-:16-33 – Today the question is, WHAT DO YOU DO and WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE during seasons of grief? How you answer this question matters. Jesus comforts his disciples because they are grieving with more grief ahead of them and we want you to hear what Jesus has to say to them and to us this morning regarding the truth surrounding our grief in this world.
We hope that the words of the songs, and the service and the sermon/message encourages, challenges, and draws you nearer to the heart of Christ through the Word of God proclaimed.
Part 27 – July 10, 2022
John 17 – Today Pastor James discusses how what one prays for reveals their heart. We learn that prayers, if transcribed and divided into themes, will reveal our wants—what we need, even our desperations? The truth is, Jesus prays. He prays for us and we learn a great deal about his heart through his prayers as well. Today we zero in on the revealed heart of Jesus through his prayers.
Part 28 – July 24, 2022
John 19 – Today we witness the trial, death and burial of Jesus. Otherwise known as the Passion of Jesus and the Gospel. In our discussion, Pastor James discusses “the why” of the Gospel (the good news and message of Jesus), and how humanity can clearly see the need for the Gospel as being self-evident and obvious in our everyday lives.
Part 29 – July 31, 2022
John 14 – Gathered around a table with His closest apprentices during the Last Supper, Jesus claimed “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). How can we trust this, or any of the bold claims Jesus made? We can because when Jesus raised Himself from the dead, it proved He was the Son of God: He had all the authority and ability to back up the claims He made about Himself! And because of Who He was on the cross, anyone choosing to follow Him can find hope and healing, peace and purpose, both in this life and the next!
